STATE OF ARKANSAS

PROCLAMATION
To all to whom these presents shall come--Greetings:
WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Liberty was a United States naval
vessel classified as an auxillary, general,
technical and research vessel; and
WHEREAS, On June 8, 1967, the U.S.S. Liberty was attacked
off the coast of Sinai by elements of the Israeli
Defense Forces; and
WHEREAS, 34 American crew members were killed in the attack
and 171 were wounded; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting that we set aside a day of tribute
in recognition of the valiant crew of the U.S.S.
Liberty;
Now, Therefore, I, Bill Clinton, Governor of the State of
Arkansas, do hereby proclaim June 8, 1991, as
USS LIBERTY MEMORIAL DAY
in Arkansas.

I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Great Seal of
the Capitol in Little Rock on this 2nd
day of June in the year of our Lord
nineteen hundred ninety-one.
